Studies have shown that sperm counts have reduced by 50-60 percent over last half a century. Not only numbers , but there has been a decline in the quality of sperms.
In India, almost 1 in 8 to 10 couples are facing infertility issues. What is the reason?
Well, there are multiple reasons for the same. there are both environmental factors and lifestyle issues.
Environmental factors include pollutants and toxins in the air, probable radiation hazards from ever increasing use of laptops and mobiles, plasticizers in plastics, and pesticides in the food we consume.
lifestyle disorders include sedentary habits leading to obesity, smoking, substance abuse and excessive alcohol intake.
Added to above is, never ending stress especially in metros and lack of sleep and exercise.
Not only fertility issues, men are increasingly facing issues with their sexual health, including erectile dysfunction and reduced libido.
How to tackle the problem? Well, the change should begin with us, before we can do something about environmental factors. Let us get back to basics: eat right, sleep well, exercise more and reduce the daily dose of stress by moving out of the never ending rat race! Stop smoking. The air we breathe everyday has enough smoke in it! Cut down on alcohol. Say no to drugs.
Eat balanced diet. Have nuts, green leafy vegetables, walnuts, fruits rich in vitamin C and zinc. All are good for sperm health.
Yes its true that country like ours is facing issues with over population. But infertility comes with its own problems of social, emotional and financial issues. And unfortunately, the burden often falls on the women! The fact is that men contribute to 50% of the cause of infertility.
Time to pause and take control of your health, not only physical and mental health, but sexual health too!
